Alpine Ski World Cup Sochi-2012

Alpine Ski World Cup Sochi-2012

Sochi: Alpine World Cup (first international test events organized in the run-up to the Olympic Games 2014)

Just as a year ago, downhill skiers are the first to participate in the test events of the forthcoming Olympic Games 2014 this season at the Rosa Khutor Snowboard Park and Freestyle Center. However, this time the difference is that the skiers shall be the first to participate in the test events of higher level as compared with the previous season to be organized at the Olympic venues. This is FIS Alpine World Cup. Alpine World Cup stands alone in a score of various test events in different sports to be conducted this season in Sochi as it is the only international test event this year.

Just as a year ago within the European Cup competitors will participate in speed skiing, while in February 2012 Super Combined will be added to Downhill. This means that men will have two runs in Downhill (first day, as a separate event, then as a part of Super Combined along with Slalom).

Women shall first compete in Downhill, then in Super Combined (next day, Super-G and Slalom).

Competitions have been scheduled to be conducted one after another; men will compete on February 8-12, 2012 and women on February 15-19, 2012.

It should be noted that Alpine World Cup has already been organized in Russia at the synthetic ramp. Promo competitions in Slalom were held in Moscow (Sparrow Hills) and involved 16 top competitors (men/women). However, then no FIS points were obtained by the same as these competitions were not officially included in the program.

Thus, the first regular World Cup (men/women) competitions will be organized in Sochi, Russia in February, 2012.
